Humility as a necessary quality for authentic relationships

What the world needs is more geniuses with humility: there are so few of us left.

–Oscar Levant

This presentation will describe the quality of humility, and propose that it is an essential attitude for creating and maintaining authentic relationships.

Humility is not something that can be taught, but it can be demonstrated, appreciated, and sometimes engendered. Humility can be chosen as an attitude, and it reflects a particular perspective on truth and knowledge, in professional as well as personal contexts.

Authentic relating, a mode of being-with, will also be described as it is related to humility: both are considered as foundations for presence and resonance, conditions which open up possibilities for true dialogue and engagement.

Personal anecdotes and professional vignettes will be offered as examples of how this quality is realised in work and in life.

There will be time for discussion and sharing of perspectives on this proposal.
